CAF wins EUR 500 million contract in Brazil

CAF has secured a major long-term services contract in Brazil after signing an agreement with Trivia Trens S.A., part of the Comporte Group, for the comprehensive maintenance of 107 electric multiple units operating on São Paulo’s Lines 11–Coral, 12–Safira and 13–Jade. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 500 million, covers a 24-year period beginning with the start of assisted commercial operation in July 2026.

The deal is one of CAF’s largest services contracts to date and reinforces the company’s strong position in the Brazilian rail market. The fleet covered under the agreement consists predominantly of trains manufactured by CAF, extending the company’s role from supplier to long-term maintainer.

Digital fleet optimisation with LeadMind

As part of the contract, the units will be equipped with CAF’s LeadMind digital platform, which enables real-time monitoring of critical parameters and supports predictive and condition-based maintenance. The system is designed to optimise maintenance planning, increase the availability of rolling stock and reduce lifecycle costs.

Supporting one of Brazil’s busiest commuter networks

Lines 11, 12 and 13 span more than 100 km of track and carry around 800,000 passengers per day across key cities in the São Paulo metropolitan region, including Guarulhos, Mogi das Cruzes, Poá, Suzano, Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Itaquaquecetuba. CAF’s maintenance programme will play a central role in ensuring reliability, safety and service performance for millions of users over the coming decades.

The contract marks an important milestone for CAF, strengthening its position as the largest maintainer of passenger rolling stock in Brazil. The company has been active in the country since 1998, delivering rolling stock and maintenance services for operators such as CPTM, Metrô de São Paulo, CBTU (Recife and Belo Horizonte) and TRENSURB in Porto Alegre. Altogether, CAF’s Brazilian portfolio represents nearly EUR 3 billion in projects.

The São Paulo award also reflects a strong year for CAF’s global services division, which now manages more than 150 contracts across 20 countries, covering maintenance activities for nearly 12,000 vehicles and supported by a workforce of over 4,000 people.

Recent service contracts include maintenance agreements with Northern in the UK, general overhauls for fleets in Trieste and Sardinia in Italy, and additional work across Latin America with Metro Quito, Metro Medellín and other Brazilian operators. CAF has also secured service agreements for the Houston tramway and Auckland’s commuter rail fleet.
