CAF has secured two new maintenance agreements in the United Kingdom and Colombia worth nearly EUR 400 million, reinforcing its growth in the rail services sector. UK: Northern Rail Renews Maintenance Contract with CAF
CAF has renewed its partnership with Northern Trains Limited and Eversholt Rail Limited for the maintenance of Northern’s train fleet. The 10-year contract covers technical support, initial corrective maintenance, spare parts supply, and major overhauls. CAF will continue providing management and technical expertise, while Northern delivers frontline maintenance work, supported by Eversholt Rail’s multidisciplinary team.
The fleet includes 101 trains delivered between 2018 and 2020—comprising 12 four-car electric units, 31 three-car electric units, 25 two-car diesel units, and 33 three-car diesel units. As the fleet approaches its first major overhaul, Northern’s renewed trust in CAF reflects the partnership’s success in enhancing reliability and operational efficiency.
CAF currently employs around 1,000 people in the UK, with manufacturing at Newport and maintenance operations across 14 depots.
Colombia: CAF Signs Long-Term Deal with Medellín Metro
In Colombia, the company has signed a service contract with Metro Medellín for the long-term maintenance of 38 three-car trainsets delivered since 2009. The deal covers general overhauls for 25 units and intermediate maintenance for 13, supporting the continued reliability of Medellín’s metro network.
This latest agreement builds on previous maintenance contracts and follows a recent order from Metro Medellín for 13 new trains and the refurbishment of the train control and monitoring systems for its entire fleet.
