CAF wins EUR 100 million contracts

CAFCAF won EUR 100 million contracts to deliver trams and metro trains to Amsterdam, Stockholm and Naples.

Amsterdam transport operator GVB Activa has exercised a first option to purchase 9 new additional trams of the 60 optional vehicles under a contract signed in 2016. The manufacturer is currently supply Amsterdam 63 tram units. The units are part of the Urbos platform and will share similar characteristics to the previous ones.

The low-floor, two-way vehicles combine their modern design with cutting-edge equipment, providing increased accessibility and comfort, as well as maximum performance and operation simplicity.

The new CAF trams will run on Amsterdam network which currently comprises 16 lines with a total of 490 stations and a span of more than 200 km.

Another extended tram contract agreement was awarded by SL AB which is responsible for Stockholm’s transport network. The contract comprises the supply of 10 three-car new trams to complement the previous fleet, which is already running in the city’s tramway network. The low-floor, two-way units are also part of the Urbos platform.

The trams have an estimated capacity of 221 passengers. They are also equipped with cutting-edge comfort and safety systems and have been specifically adapted to the extreme weather conditions in the Nordic country.

To develop its sustainable and demand-driven transport model, at the end of 2010 Stockholm awarded a contract to supply 15 trams which made provision for an extension of 121 further units, and then, this was later extended by a further 27 units in successive extensions over the past few years.

With Ente Autonomo Volturno, the rail and public transport operator in Campania Region, the contract envisages the supply of 10 metro units including integral maintenance for a period of 3 years, in addition to the supply of depot parts

The trains supplied will enter services on the Piscinola – Aversa Centro Line of Naples metro network.

In the same day the first contract was concluded under the framework agreement for the delivery of the first 4 six-car trainsets. The features of the trains will be analogous to those of the 19 units formerly procured from the Company by the Comune di Napoli for Line 1 of the Naples Metro.
