Budamar purchases 5 Vectron MS locomotives

Budamar Group announced it has ordered five Vectron multi-system locomotives and negotiates with Siemens Mobility on further locomotive procurement, Peter Malec, Chairman of the Board of Management of Budamar Logistics said, without giving further details. EUR 20 million is the value of the ordered locomotives, as EUR 4 million is the price per locomotive.
Vectron locomotives are officially owned by Slovenská plavba a prístavy while other Budamar Group will lease them from it.
The Budamar Group portfolio includes major companies like Lokorail, Central Railways and Inter Cargo, Slovenská plavba a prístavy, a Slovakian transshipment operator, carriage maintenance company ŽOS Vrútky and carriage producer Tatravagónka. So far, the group only used to lease the locomotives but now it owns the most modern units produced in Europe.
“We are willing to expand and continue to invest. After we carried out our project in Čierna nad Tisou, which is unique in Europe and which brought to the Eastern Slovakia the most modern bulk commodities transshipment complex providing service for broad-gauge railways in Europe, we decided to invest into buying locomotives. For our group, this is a logical step,” said Peter Malec.
