Bombardier awarded ERTMS contract in Poland

Poland’s rail infrastructure manager, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, and Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS) Polska signed a EUR 20.7 million (PLN 87 million) contract to design and build the ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 system on Wrocław – Poznań section, as part of E59 Line. The contract is 85 percent co-financed by the EU under the Connecting Europe Facility.
The contract envisages the installation of ETCS Level 2 system and railway traffic control systems on the 162-km line between Wrocław and Poznań, including 17 stations. The contract should be completed within 61 months (5 years).
Under the contract, Bombardier will also install Radio Block Centre devices at three local rail traffic control centers (Wrocław Popowice, Leszno and Poznań II), enabling signals to be sent to trains, using radio connection via GSM-R network.
Before the commencement of works, Bombardier will prepare project documentation, necessary for the proper performance of works and obtaining all required agreements, decisions and permits.
Last year, PKP PLK completed the modernisation works on Poznań – Czempinia section, including 8 stations and stops, which enable trains to run at speeds of 160 km/h. Currently, the company is carrying out the reconstruction works on the middle section from Czempinia to Rawicz.
The modernisation works are carried out as part of the project ” Works on the E59 railway line on the Wroclaw-Poznan section, stage IV, border of Dolnoslaskie Voivodeship-Czempin section”, which is 76 percent co-financed through Connecting Europe Facility. The total cost of the project is PLN 1.2 billion (EUR 285.6 million).
