Bogestra orders 8 additional LRVs from Stadler

Bogestra, the public transport operator in the Ruhr area, ordered 8 additional Variobahn light rail vehicles from Stadler, bringing the fleet to 95 such LRVs. The new Variobahn LRVs will be delivered from 2021. The new LRVs will be used on the meter-gauge network in the urban area of Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Hattingen and Witten.
“With the 8 other Variobahn vehicles, we will operate a total fleet of 95 Variobahn LRVs,” Arndt Hartmann, the manager of Vehicles Division at Bogestra.
The five-section bidirectional low-floor vehicles will have a length of 30m, with a capacity of 165 passengers. They will be equipped with five external swinging-sliding doors on each side, allowing an optimal flow of passengers. They will also be equipped with video monitoring systems and air conditioning systems.
“We are delighted to award the contract for 8 additional Variobahn vehicles following the contract signed in April for six other Tango LRVs,” Patrick Sefzik, the Head of Tram Sales division at Stadler in Berlin.
In April, the two companies signed a contract for the delivery of 6 Tango LRVs which will be deployed on Bochum Route U35.
