Beijing invested USD 78 billion in transport system

Beijing invested USD 78 billion (CNY 492.2 billion) in transport system over the five past years, of which 75 percent represented the investment for public transport projects. Thus, through public-private partnership and build-operate-transfer mechanisms, the city invested USD 9 billion to develop its public transport system.
With 22 metro lines in operation, the total length of rail transit in Beijing had increased to 608 km by the end of 2017 from 442 km five years ago.
According to the acting mayor, Chen Jining, this year, the city intends to open three more metro lines, exceeding 630 km. we remind you that at the end of 2017, China’s capital has put into commercial operation three metro lines.
Regarding the other implemented projects, the city announced that the main structure of the metro line 12, which will run east and west through northern Beijing, will be completed in 2019. The total length of the line is 29.6 kilometers, with 21 stops, 15 of which are transfer stations.
Also, the metro Line 17, which is the longest urban rail line under construction is scheduled to be operational in 2021.
Meanwhile, the total length of expressways had increased to 1,017 km from 922 km while that of arterial roads had increased to 1,365 km from 1,226 km.
As the authorities seek to integrate Beijing with its neighbors Tianjin and Hebei, they have been building more high-speed railways and highways in the region.
The total investment allotted in the last five years represents a 44 percent increase from the USD 53.5 billion in the five-year period to 2016 as the city sought to ease traffic jams and improve transport networks connecting neighboring regions, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said.
