Barcelona launches tender for procurement of 42 new metro trains

The tender has been approved by Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority (TMB) and the 42 new metro trains will have five units each. Following the tender, the oldest metro trains in Barcelona will be removed from operation and replaced with the new ones.
Therefore, Line 1 and Line 3 will have completely new trains.
The tender will be divided into 2 lots. The first lot has an estimated value of EUR 264.6 million and envisages the procurement of 24 metro trains for the 1668 mm Spanish broad gauge of Line 1.  The second lot has an estimated value of EUR 182.6 million and envisages the procurement of 18 metro trains with standard 1435 mm gauge for Line 3.
According to Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority, the winner of the tender could be announced this autumn.
