Attiko Metro may receive a EIB loan for the development of the new metro line 4 in Athens, as the bank has under appraisal the design and construction of the line. If approved, the loan will finance the first phase of the new line 4, including acquisition of fleet, signaling and control systems.
The total value of the project is EUR 1.65 billion, of which the proposed EIB finance is EUR 730 million.
In August, Attiko Metro announce that four bidders expressed their interest for the Athens’ Line 4 project.
By the end of this year, the Attiko Metro will announce the shortlisted companies that will have to submit their technical and financial offer for the Alsos Veikou – Goudi section (“A”section – 13 km). the The first phase of metro Line 4 project involves the construction of 14 stations and a 13 km line between Alsos Veikou and Goudi, linking the densely populated neighbourhoods of central Athens such as Zografou, Kesariani, Kolonaki, Exarhia, Kypseli and Galatsi.
The construction should be launched in 2019 and will take 8 years to be completed.
This section of the Athens Metro will provide transport services to many important facilities, such as hospitals, universities and their campuses, the courts area, regions with increased professional and commercial services, etc. It is foreseen that it will serve new residential areas and will significantly reduce travel time to the city center.
The project will have strong linkages with other lines of the Athens Metro network and include five transfer stations to the existing Lines 1, 2 and 3.
