Arriva Group has secured a new EUR 5 million contract to operate two regional railway lines in Poland’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, reinforcing its role as a key player in Europe’s liberalising public transport market.

Starting in December 2026, the new agreement will see Arriva deliver passenger services on the Brodnica–Rypin and Wierzchucin–Laskowice Pomorskie lines. The deal marks a major step in reconnecting communities previously cut off from the rail network.
Arriva in Poland: Reviving dormant rail routes
The contract will bring trains back to the Brodnica–Rypin line for the first time in 26 years, and restore services on the Wierzchucin–Laskowice Pomorskie route, unused for five years. Together, the two corridors will provide an estimated 320,000 train kilometres annually, with a minimum of six return journeys each day.
The new services are part of Kujawsko-Pomorskie’s commitment to expanding public transport through competitive tendering and strategic investments. Arriva’s win follows a competitive process and reflects the region’s progressive approach to rail service delivery.
Strengthening Arriva’s presence
Arriva already operates 50 per cent of the region’s regional rail traffic, delivering more than three million train kilometres a year. The addition of the two lines further consolidates the group’s position in Poland and supports its long-term strategy to expand across Europe as more transport markets open to competition.
Sian Leydon, Managing Director for Mainland Europe at Arriva Group, said: “This new agreement is a fantastic step forward in our partnership with the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region. We are proud to play an active role in restoring critical transport links for local communities and enabling greater access to rail services.”
She added that the region’s approach to procurement and development “aligns perfectly with our ambition to deliver more connected, reliable transport across Europe.”
Leveraging european network
Rolling stock for the services will be sourced from Arriva’s broader European fleet, highlighting the advantages of its multinational presence. The group currently operates across 11 countries, allowing it to deploy resources efficiently in support of new contracts.
The Polish expansion aligns with Arriva’s focus on leveraging its scale and operational expertise to grow in markets transitioning towards competitive public transport frameworks.
The newly awarded contract not only restores vital connections within Kujawsko-Pomorskie but also positions Arriva as a reliable partner in delivering sustainable, high-quality rail services in evolving European markets.
