Pilsen City Transport Company (PMDP) awarded Arriva Vlaky a public service obligations (PSO) contract to provide transport services on Plzeň – Domažlice rail route (P3 line) for the next 10 years, starting mid-December.
Following the electric trains operating on the P1 line along the Pňovany – Plzeň – Horažďovice předměstí route, Arriva will introduce its diesel multiple units. They will run on the P3 line between Plzeň and Domažlice, 50 km west of Plzeň and 25 km of the State of Bavaria, Germany.
Arriva will deploy GTW DMUs manufactured by Stadler, which are also operating in Zlín and more recently, the South Moravian regions, where Arriva has been operating them since last December.
These low-floor trains have a capacity of 100 seats and are equipped with passenger information system. They will also meet other requirements set by the Pilsen transport company and include air-conditioned system and the European ETCS signalling equipment.
Arriva says that the DMUs will be painted in the blue livery of the Plzeň region with yellow doors, just like our electric trains on the P1 line or all its regional buses.
In line with the Plzeň region’s plan, there will be a significant increase in service compared to the current situation. On the Plzeň – Domažlice rail route 16 pairs of trains will run on weekdays, and additional express trains will operate on the P3 railway. There will also be a significant increase in connections between Plzeň – Nýřany and further to Stod. While currently, four pairs of trains operate on weekdays, this number will rise to ten.
In May 2023, Arriva Group signed a 15 – year contract to deliver transport services in Pilsen region. The EUR 82.5 million 10-year contract marked Arriva’s entry on Czech Republic’s electric rail market
In June 2023, Arriva also won the contract to operate the rail network in South Moravia, with services starting in December 2024.
