Alstom is strengthening its presence in the United States by expanding partnerships with academic institutions, with the aim of training and preparing the future workforce in the rail and transportation sectors.
The company announced on June 1, 2026, that it is expanding its collaborations with colleges and universities in the U.S. to support the development of skills in engineering, transportation, and rail mobility. The initiative comes amid major orders secured over the past two years and increased hiring in North America, across manufacturing, engineering, and management.
“Modernizing and expanding public and rail transit has many benefits, including the creation of good jobs in America,” said Dani Simons, vice president of communications and public affairs for the Americas region.
Partnerships to Train Future Specialists
Collaborations include a scholarship fund at Alfred State College in New York State, as well as partnerships with the University of Pennsylvania and New York University (NYU). Alstom has manufacturing facilities in New York and Pennsylvania and offices in New York City and Philadelphia.
“The partnership with Alstom is essential for connecting research with real-world transportation practice. Their industry experience brings real value to research and the educational process,” said Leslie Richards, director of the Transportation Initiative at Penn.
“The collaboration with Alstom brings industry perspectives and concrete opportunities for students,” said Sarah Kaufman, executive director of the NYU Rudin Center.
Alstom will donate $50,000 to Alfred State College for a scholarship fund dedicated to engineering technology students. At the same time, the company is becoming a founding sponsor of the Transportation Initiative at Penn and a member of the NYU Rudin Center’s advisory board.
These initiatives reflect Alstom’s growing focus on education, professional training, and workforce development in the U.S. rail sector, amid its continued expansion in the U.S. market.
