Alstom delivers new APM trains to Atlanta Airport

Alstom has officially delivered the first of 29 next-generation Innovia APM R vehicles to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The contract, worth USD 87 million, marks Alstom’s largest APM replacement project to date and its second-largest APM engagement in the Americas.

The delivery represents the third order of Innovia APM vehicles for Atlanta’s Plane Train system, bringing the total to 63 cars. Designed for enhanced performance and dependability, the new vehicles will support rising passenger demand at the world’s busiest airport, which welcomed over 108 million travellers in 2024.

“Over the last 40 years, Alstom has proudly partnered with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to transport passengers at one of the world’s busiest airports. These new Innovia vehicles will enhance capacity, support future growth, and ensure a smooth journey for travellers,” Michael Keroullé, President of Alstom Americas, said.

The new APM units are built in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, Alstom’s North American hub for APM production. They are designed with a lightweight aluminium frame, offer higher speeds and improved energy efficiency, and are capable of carrying up to 900 passengers per train. The vehicles will support the Plane Train extension and help deliver a more seamless travel experience.

Alstom’s Innovia APMs transport passengers at 15 airports across the United States.
