Alstom and CZ Loko sign agreement for 50 Onvia Cab Units

Alstom has signed a contract with CZ Loko, a manufacturer of diesel-electric shunting locomotives, for the supply of 50 Onvia Cab ETCS onboard units over the next two years. The contract, valued at EUR 9 million, will see the installation of the onboard ETCS components begin in March 2025.

Under the agreement, Alstom will deliver 50 Onvia Cab units for installation on the MUV 75, a specialised two-axle vehicle used for railway maintenance. The addition of these units will enhance rail transport safety and ensure that the maintenance vehicles fully comply with current security requirements. CZ Loko will supply the vehicles to the Railway Administration (Správa železnic).

“The contract is a continuation of our long-term cooperation with CZ Loko and at the same time confirms our position as a leader in the installation of ETCS onboard units. Currently, Alstom solutions account for over 80% of ETCS onboard unit installations in the Czech Republic. With tens of thousands of installations, Onvia Cab solutions are proven, reliable and very flexible,” said Dan Kurucz, Managing Director of Alstom Czech Republic.

Onvia Cab is a state-of-the-art onboard European Train Control System (ETCS) developed by Alstom. It is designed for installation on all types of new trains and for retrofitting existing rolling stock. The system complies with the latest TSI 2023 standard at Baseline 3 level, ensuring full compatibility and regulatory compliance.

As a global leader in ETCS onboard technology, Alstom has equipped 70% of ERTMS-enabled trains in Europe, with more than 25,000 onboard units installed across 200 different vehicle types worldwide.

In the Czech Republic, the exclusive operation of the European Train Control System began in January 2025. The system currently monitors 622 kilometres of main railway lines, ensuring absolute safety with an operational availability rate of 99.2%. Alstom remains the country’s largest supplier of mobile (onboard) ETCS units.
