Agreement signed for Belgrade-Priština railway link

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, attended to a signing ceremony of the creation of Belgrade-Priština railway corridor.

The agreement was signed during the Munich Security Conference.

This is “a great step towards reaching a final peace agreement between the two countries,” Hashim Thaci said.

Aleksandar Vučić mentioned that through the agreement, the two countries will “have a better future”, which will “ensure the peace for the coming decades. I am very happy with the progress in relations with Priština on establishing the transport links that allow a free flow of capital, people, goods and services.”

On Serbian side, the agreement was signed by Marko Đurić, which is the Director of the Office for Kosovo at Serbian Government.

“This document represents an expression of political will for establishing faster and safer transport services between the capital and the largest city of our southern province. We expect it will bring concrete benefits to the Serbian economy,” Đurić said.

The agreement was promoted by the US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, supported by the US President, Donald Trump.

Currently, the only rail link between the two countries runs from Kraljevo to Mitrovica, in Kosovo.
