6th Metro Line in Bucharest to receive European funds

The European Commission has announced the Romanian Ministry of Transport that it will finance the metro link project with Henri Coanda – Otopeni International Airport [6th metro Line, which will be built between 1 Mai station (on metro Line 4) and Henri Coanda – International Airport].
At the moment, negotiations are taking place regarding the maximum amount of non-reimbursable funds to be allocated through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (LIOP).
The final value also depends on the discussions between the Romanian authorities, the European Commission and Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The purpose of the financing application is to ensure a direct connection between Bucharest and Henri Coanda – International Airport, respectively between Bucharest North Railway Station-1 Mai station- Airport, by building a new metro line with a length of 14.2 kilometers and 12 stations.
The total value of the project is EUR 1.39 billion and the co-financing will be provided through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as from the state budget.
