The ForCity Plus 52T tram began test operations with passengers in Prague on 17 June 2025, with its first service operating on Line 12.

After completing over 20,000 km during the initial phase of testing without passengers, the vehicle has now entered the next stage, running on Line 12 from the Lehovec terminus towards Sídliště Barrandov. This line was chosen for its optimal length and varied urban landscape. The homologation tests were previously conducted outside the regular timetable across the entire Prague tram network.

The launch was marked by an event attended by Prague Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib, DPP CEO Ladislav Urbánek, and DPP Vice-Chairman Jan Šurovský.

“The Škoda ForCity Plus 52T tram is the result of the work of thousands of people who came together to create a vehicle that will provide comfortable and safe transport for the people of Prague. More than 230 suppliers are involved in the project, 76% of which are Czech companies,” said Petr Novotný.

The Škoda 52T is a unidirectional, 100% low-floor tram measuring 32 metres in length and weighing 48 tonnes. It is equipped with full-vehicle air conditioning, LED lighting both inside and out, and a modern passenger information system featuring six screens distributed along the aisle.

The tram has a total capacity of up to 243 passengers, including 70 seated. Five double-leaf doors enable fast and convenient boarding and alighting.

The new tram is part of a framework agreement signed between the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) and Škoda Group in December 2023 for the delivery of up to 200 ForCity Plus 52T trams. If all vehicles are ordered, the total contract value is estimated at CZK 16.6 billion (EUR 669.4 million). The initial firm order includes 40 trams, which are being delivered in phases, with the first vehicle entering homologation testing in January 2025.

Additional Škoda 52T trams are expected to arrive in Prague over the summer. In addition to ongoing testing, they will also be used for training drivers from DPP. The tram is undergoing a range of type tests, including those for electrical components. For these purposes, vehicle no. 9504, delivered to Prague on 13 May 2025, is currently in use and will be seen operating test runs on Prague’s streets throughout the summer.
