Warsaw has opened the Stegny tram route along Bonifacego Street towards Stegny bus and tram terminus. The new tram line, No. 19 entered operation providing the residents of Lower Mokotów district a direct connection to the Central Railway Station and Jana Pawła II Avenue.

The entire branch of the Wilanów tram route to Stegny is approximately 800 metres long, comprising 1,8 km of single track. A full track junction has been constructed at the intersection of Sobieskiego and św. Bonifacego streets. From there, the new tracks run in a dedicated central reservation between the carriageways, and for a significant stretch, the tracks are covered with sedum plants.
The new section ends with a two-track tram and bus terminus. Bus stops will be situated directly beside the tram platforms shared stops are also planned. A turnout has also been built to allow for possible future expansion of the tram line.
The Stegny tram route is an extension of the main line to Miasteczko Wilanów, which passengers have been using since last year. Thanks to the completion of this route, the Stegny district is now served by urban rail transport. The new tracks also enhance the flexibility of the tram network.
With the opening of the new tram tracks, a new line – No.19 – will begin operating, taking passengers from Stegny and Lower Mokotów towards the Central Railway Station. From there, the usual route of line 19 continues along other roads to the Nowe Bemowo terminus.
With the opening of the new tram line, trams will run on an extended route to the Koło terminus – continuing along Powstańców Śląskich, Radiowa and Dywizjonu 303. This temporary extension will provide passengers with a convenient link in this part of Warsaw while track works are underway on Młynarska Street.
The Stegny tram route will allow “tram line 19 to run along the newly built section on św. Bonifacego Street. It will be a fast, convenient rail link to the city centre, as well as to Wola and Bemowo. The journey from Stegny to the Central Station will take around 20 minutes,” said Rafał Trzaskowski, the Mayor of Warsaw.
