Vossloh opens switch plant in Victoria

Switch plant in Bendigo

Vossloh has celebrated the opening of its new switch plant in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia which can produce up to 200 turnouts a year.

The event was attended by the Premier of the state of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, along with Vossloh representatives and more than a hundred guests from politics and industry.

“With this new switch plant, are setting a global benchmark for precision, automation and sustainability in switch production. For our Australian customers, we are expanding and optimizing our range of products and services, including the possible production of high-speed switches for a future high-speed line between Brisbane and Melbourne,” Jan Furnivall, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vossloh, said.

The new plant has modern machinery, significantly greater flexibility and increased capacity. This means that Australian customers and major projects can be supplied even more efficiently and better in the future. In addition to modern production technology, the new plant in Bendigo is equipped with a solar system with a nominal output of 228 kilowatts and relies on energy-efficient technologies.

“We’ve just opened Vossloh’s new brand factory here in Bendigo. It’s bigger and better than Vossloh’s old manufacturing facility and has the potential to double the workforce because they see a great future in Victorian rail projects like the Airport Rail, or the Suburban Rail Loop. This new switch plant in Bendigo is making the components we need to build major rail projects. My government will always back local manufacturing, because we’ll always back good local jobs,” Jacinta Allan said when cut the ribbon for the symbolic opening.

Vossloh manufactures switches and components for rail projects in the south and east of Australia. The country has extensive plans for expansion and new construction of rail links. The company is involved in all major rail projects in Australia, including the Inland Rail project, the largest infrastructure project in the country that will connect Melbourne and Brisbane via an approximately 1,600 km long line designed for freight transport. The company also supplies all the metro and regional railway systems across the country, as well as all mining companies. Vossloh is the market leader in Australia in both switch manufacturing and the production of concrete sleepers for rail tracks.
