Uzbekistan: USD 10 billion transport strategy includes rail development and electrification projects

UzbekistanAccording to the the action plan of the Cabinet of Ministers, presented by Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev, Uzbekistan will direct about USD 10 billion to development of railways, roads, logistics centers by 2020.
Within this plan, Uzbekistan is planning to implement 150 projects. In railway transport, the programme envisages the implementation of 13 development and electrification projects including Angren-Pap, Maroqand-Qarshi, Qarshi-Termez, Maroqand-Bukhara rail lines.
The action programme specifies that one of serious problems of Uzbekistan is that transport communications that are located far and there is no direct access to sea ports. Foreign trade is conducted via transit of goods via territories of 2-3 states. In the result, the expenses to deliver goods are growing and it impacts competitiveness of exported goods from Uzbekistan.
The development and modernization of transport infrastructure for 2015-2019 envisages measures on further developing roads and railways, logistic centers and communications.
