USD 135 million for Arkansas rail infrastructure

USD 135 million will be invested in Arkansas’ railway infrastructure, Union Pacific announced. Under the project, USD 119 million will be allotted to maintain railway track and USD 7 million to maintain bridges in the state. The investment involves USD 20 million for the rail line between Rison and Camden to replace 75.6 km of rail and USD 14 million will be invested in the rail line between Little Rock and Benton to replace 61,005 railroad ties and install 16,838 tons of rock ballast.
This year’s planned USD 135 million capital expenditure in Arkansas is part of an ongoing investment strategy. From 2012 to 2016, Union Pacific invested more than USD 588 million strengthening Arkansas’ transport infrastructure.
Union Pacific plans to spend USD 3.1 billion across its network this year. The company has invested USD 51 billion since 2000, contributing to a 40 percent decrease in derailments during the same time frame.
