Two European companies to cooperate on the development of Asia- Europe container routes

LDz Loģistika, a subsidiary of Latvian Railways ( Latvijas dzelzceļš; LDz), has signed a cooperation agreement with the German company RTSB, one of the leading container freight logistics companies with representation offices in Russia, China, Mongolia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere in Eurasia. Both companies have agreed to co-operate on development of container freight segment between China and Northern Europe and have started working on the development of new multimodal transport routes through the Port of Riga to Scandinavia and the United Kingdom.

“ As of now, we don’t only experience a steady increase in the volume of rail freight coming from China to the Belarusian capital, Minsk, but we also actively work with our Belarusian colleagues to develop a new logistics hub connecting Minsk and Riga, with daily shuttles, in order to minimize transit time and costs to Scandinavian countries. Cooperation with the leading operators will help to increase the volume of cargo on this route.” LDz President Edvīns Bērziņš explaines.

“We’ve already been represented in Latvia for many years and have had successful cooperation with the partners at railway and ports. We believe Latvia currently has the most developed infrastructure suitable for efficient and fast transport of goods between China and Europe, and the agreement signed with LDz Loģistika will contribute to further development of this cooperation,” the CEO and owner of RTSB, Valerij Ballardt states.

The development outlook for container freight segment has been clearly marked by LDz Loģistika’s results of the first six months of 2017. Overall, the company shipped 29% more containers in the first half of the year than during the same period last year, and the company continues to focus on attracting new customers and partners to furth er develop this segment.
