TVZ finalized rolling stock delivery for Russian Post

Tver Carriage Works (TVZ), part of Transmashholding, has completed ahead of schedule the delivery of 45 baggage and mail cars slated for the Russian Post. The owner of the rolling stock is VTB Leasing company, that, according to a trilateral contract, will deliver them to the Russian Post on terms of financial leasing. The trilateral contract was signed on 1 September and concerned the delivery of 45 baggage and mail cars of the 61-4405 model.
The advantage of the 61-4405 model is the possibility of using the railcars on international routes. The design allows the use of two types of bogies meant for the 1520 mm Russian gauge as well as for the international gauge of 1435 mm. This possibility gives an advantage over other baggage and mail cars during their operation on the railways of other countries, such as China.
The rolling stock is equipped with an integrated monitoring system which allows to control the situation in the baggage section at a distance. The speed of the railcars is 160 km/h, which allows using them with high-speed passenger trains.
“The new cars of domestic production will help us to significantly renovate our railway fleet that has about 800 cars. This is especially relevant during the peak season of the New Year holidays”, deputy general director for logistics of the Russian Post Aleksey Skatin said.
