The DP2D diesel train, manufactured by the Demihovo Machine-Building Plant, part of the Transmashholding (TMH) group, has obtained a certificate of conformity with the requirements of the Eurasian Customs Union’s technical regulation on the safety of railway rolling stock.
The train is designed for operation on non-electrified railway lines and can be configured to suit passenger volumes.
The certificate allows the new DMUs to be operated in Russia and in the other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The new DP2D diesel train has completed all the necessary tests, including a 5,000 km endurance test. Specialists from Russian Railways (RZD) assessed the diesel train’s performance under real operating conditions during a test run on the St Petersburg–Sortavala route.
In June, the acceptance committee, comprising representatives of TMH, RZD, relevant institutes and the competent authorities, analysed the results of the acceptance tests and awarded the DP2D diesel train the O1 designation.
The final stage of the certification process involved an assessment of the production capacities of the Kolomna and Demihovo plants. The checks were carried out by specialists from the Federal Railway Transport Certification Register. The auditors also verified the technical documentation and the manufacturing process, and analysed the results of the rolling stock certification tests.
The DP2D train can be configured according to passenger numbers
The new train, developed by Transmashholding, enables passenger transport to be organised on routes with varying passenger volumes, thanks to the train’s flexible configuration.
The DP2D consists of a TEP70BS diesel locomotive for passenger trains and can be configured with between two and six railcars. The locomotive is manufactured at the Kolomna Plant, part of TMH Energy Solutions, whilst the railcars are manufactured at the Demihovo Plant.
The diesel train has a design speed of 120 km/h and an estimated service life of 32 years.
Depending on the configuration chosen by the operator and the interior specifications, the DP2D can accommodate between 162 and 636 passengers. The end railcars each feature two specially adapted seats for passengers using wheelchairs.
The train is equipped with a unified control system. The functions for driving and monitoring the condition of the rolling stock are fully duplicated in the cabs of both the locomotive and the end railcars. Both the TEP70BS locomotive and the passenger railcars have been modified to accommodate this system. The entire train set is operated by a single crew of drivers.
The railcars of the DP2D train are fitted with ergonomic seats, and USB Type-A and Type-C sockets with a fast-charging function for mobile devices are available beneath each group of seats.
The tinted, heat-insulating windows and the air-conditioning system help to maintain a comfortable microclimate inside the railcars. Information about the route and other details for passengers is displayed on LCD screens.
The trains can also be fitted with bicycle racks. In addition, the end railcar features an eco-friendly toilet, accessible to passengers with reduced mobility.
