The first high-speed train manufactured in Türkiye reached 240 km/h during ongoing tests, announced Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The train is being developed by Türkiye Raylı Sistem Araçları AŞ (TÜRASAŞ), the state-owned company responsible for the production of railway rolling stock.
According to the minister, testing is continuing to verify all performance, safety, and comfort criteria before the train can be put into service.
Previously, the train had reached 225 km/h during dynamic braking tests, one of the critical stages of the verification program. Uraloğlu noted that the new threshold of 240 km/h was reached as the testing process continued.
Tests for speed, braking, and dynamic behavior
“We have completed the production of Türkiye’s first high-speed train using local and national resources, and on the second day of dynamic braking tests, it successfully reached a speed of 225 km/h. The testing process continues successfully, and the National High-Speed Electric Train has reached 240 km/h,” said Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
The minister said that the testing program will thoroughly analyze criteria such as speed, braking, running performance, and compatibility with the infrastructure.
“We will continue testing until our trains reach maximum speed and fully meet all safety and comfort criteria,” Uraloğlu stated.
Eight-car train with 577 seats
The train consists of eight cars with aluminum bodies and has a capacity of 577 passengers. The train is equipped with an automatic train stop system, electromechanical doors for passenger access, fully automatic air conditioning, a fire detection system, audio and visual passenger information systems, and surveillance cameras.
Uraloğlu emphasized that two of the train’s most important systems, the train control and management system and the traction system, were designed and manufactured locally in collaboration with ASELSAN, a Turkish company specializing in electronic systems and technologies for defense and critical infrastructure.
Passenger amenities and accessibility
The train features vending machines for food and beverages, as well as kitchen-style areas to meet passengers’ needs during the journey.
The train is also equipped with two compartments for passengers with reduced mobility. Additionally, the train includes elevators that allow wheelchair users to board and disembark between the platform and the vehicle.
“We have designed our trains to meet current and future needs through high comfort and innovation,” said the Turkish Minister of Transport.
