Adif AV has launched a tender for the construction of two sections on the Burgos–Vitoria high-speed line, totaling 23.7 km, with a total value of EUR 431.6 millions.
One of the sections involves the connection between the Burgos and Valle de las Navas railway bypass, with a length of 16.7 km and a value of EUR 159.2 millions . The second section, 7 km long, will be built between Manzanos and La Puebla de Arganzón, with an estimated contract value of EUR 272.4 millions.
The works involve the construction of the route and related structures (tunnels, viaducts, etc.), over which, in subsequent phases, the rails (double track with standard gauge) and the equipment and systems that enable and manage rail traffic will be installed. Electrification works and the installation of signaling and telecommunications systems will also be carried out.
The project includes, among other things, the construction of 13 viaducts, including the one over the Zardorra River.
The construction of the Burgos–Valle de las Navas railway bypass section is the first segment of the new high-speed line and is located entirely in the province of Burgos. The project includes the construction of six viaducts, including those crossing the Vena River (643 m) and the Valle stream (444 m). The section starts from the Burgos railway bypass, running parallel to the conventional railway line for the first 3 km to the Rubena area, then heading northeast to Valle de las Navas.
Seven viaducts will be built along the Manzanos – La Puebla de Arganzón section, accounting for over 2.5 km of the total length of the route (7 km). These include the viaduct over the Zardorra River, which is over 1 km long and 50 m high, with a 222 m concrete arch to allow it to cross the Zardorra River, the Madrid–Hendaye conventional railway line, and the A1 motorway.

Adif AV continues to develop the line that will connect the Basque Country to the high-speed network. The Pancorbo–Ameyugo section, currently under construction, has 77% of the 8.4 km route built through a succession of three tunnels and three viaducts. The works were contracted in 2025, with an investment of EUR 391 million.
With this tender, Adif AV has three of the seven sections of the Burgos–Vitoria high-speed line under construction, totaling 32.1 km. At the same time, the project plans and tender process for the remaining sections are being finalized.
The Burgos–Vitoria high-speed line is a key section of the Atlantic Corridor, ensuring continuity with the Madrid–Valladolid–Burgos high-speed line and will connect both the Basque Country, where it will connect with the line under construction between the three Basque capitals (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bilbao, and San Sebastián), and the French border via Irún.
