Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) is inviting tenders to install solar panels and equipment on the roof of the Chaozhou Rolling Stock Depot in Pingtung. The company that wins the tender will install, operate and maintain the solar power system and also be required to pay the TRA a percentage of the money earned from selling solar energy.
TRA will start confirming the eligibility of candidates for the first phase on 28 August. The solar energy development project is expected to generate an estimated 5 million kilowatts hours (kWh) of power annually and create revenues of NT$ 36 million (USD 1.22 million) over the next 20 years.
The TRA devised the plan in response to the central government’s push for the development of rooftop solar energy projects.
