Stadler and ebblo Western Europe (formerly Trapeze DACH) have announced a strategic partnership to develop integrated passenger information solutions for public transport.
The cooperation combines display hardware developed by Stadler with operations management software developed by ebblo, with the aim of technically integrating digital screens into public transport control systems.
Through this collaboration, Stadler displays will be integrated into the Intermodal Transport Control Systems (ITCS) developed by ebblo. These platforms monitor vehicles in real time and ensure communication between vehicles and control centers, while facilitating the provision of up-to-date information to passengers.
The resulting solutions will be used primarily in bus and tram networks, where digital information at stations can help improve journey planning and better distribute passengers on platforms or in boarding areas.
Passenger information displays
The Stadler Signalling division develops and manufactures the MOFIS Passenger Information Monitor (PIM) in Braunschweig, Germany, which is designed for outdoor use and operation in various environmental conditions, including direct sunlight.
The system uses TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) technology, an evolution of conventional LCD screens, and is used by transport operators to display information about departures, delays, or other announcements for passengers.
By integrating with ITCS systems, these displays can show real-time data such as departure times, delays, or vehicle occupancy, making it easier to plan trips.
The systems can also include additional features such as audio announcements, text-to-speech, integrated speakers, occupancy display, infotainment functions, and LTE or 5G connectivity.
Digital solutions for urban mobility
ebblo develops digital solutions for public transport in areas such as operations control systems, passenger information, on-board systems, and data analysis.
The company uses technologies such as artificial intelligence, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications, and cloud-based architectures to improve operational management and interoperability of transport systems.
Representatives of the two companies say that the integration of hardware and software will enable the development of passenger information systems tailored to the current and future requirements of public transport.
“We are very pleased about this strategic cooperation with ebblo. Together, we are combining our strengths to create future-proof passenger information solutions that benefit both transport operators and passengers,” said Albrecht Teich, Managing Director of Stadler Signalling Germany.
“Through the partnership with Stadler, we are gaining a partner that ideally complements our portfolio. This cooperation allows us to expand our offering with high-performance passenger information displays and provide our customers with complete solutions, from operational management to modern and coherent information systems,” said Marcel Velten, CEO of ebblo Western Europe.
