Sofia could acquire second-hand trams from Prague

SofiaSofia Public Electrical Transport Company will hold talks with Prague Public Transport Company for the acquisition of 10 second-hand trams. The estimated value of the contract is 395,000 levs (202,000 euros). The two companies have already established that the trams are compatible with Sofia’s Iskar tram depot.
Until now, the authorities have implemented projects for the infrastructure and rolling stock modernisation, the operational fleet having 176 vehicles. Sofia’s total length of tram lines is of 308 km.
The tram network operator received a new tram, Swing, from Pesa, in 2014, within the framework of the contract signed in 2013 for delivering 20 low-floor trams. The value of the contract was estimated at EUR 33,8 million. In 2016, it was announced that Pesa is to supply 5 new trams for the amount of EUR 8,5 million. In June 2016, the Swing trams for Sofia were in production at Pesa’s factory in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz. This was the second order for Pesa trams from the city of Sofia.
