Signaling contract for Stockholm Central Station

Infralink, the Swedish company that manages and awards infrastructure works, has selected Strukton to carry out signaling and telecommunications works at Stockholm Central Station.

The contract involves the installation of systems as part of the extension of Platform 6 at Stockholm Central Station and is expected to be completed. The project owner is the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), and completion is scheduled for December 2026.

Stockholm Central Station is one of Sweden’s busiest railway hubs and an essential part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

“It is a great honor to take on this project at Stockholm Central Station. We thank Infralink for their trust and look forward to a good collaboration,” said Pia Peurala, district manager at Strukton.

The project highlights Strukton’s ongoing contribution to strengthening Sweden’s critical rail infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient transport flows at one of the country’s most important stations.

Stockholm Central Station – growing traffic

Stockholm Central Station is Sweden’s busiest railway station, with over 60 million passengers annually, and this number could reach approximately 150 million per year by 2030 as traffic increases.

Every day, more than 300,000 passengers pass through the station, connecting long-distance trains, commuter services, the Arlanda Express to Arlanda Airport, and other urban and regional transport links. The station has 17 platforms serving a complex network of national and international rail lines, making it a key point in the Swedish capital’s transport infrastructure.

In addition, the station is involved in a number of major development and modernization projects. One example is the design competition to transform the station into an urban center and integrated mobility hub, which proposes covering the track areas and creating mixed-use spaces for offices, housing, and services as part of an urban regeneration plan. Plans have also been launched to modernize the station environment and the associated rail network to meet future demand and improve passenger accessibility.
