Shift2Rail JU adopts its new action plan

Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking has adopted its newly Multi-Annual Action Plan which was presented to the EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc during Digital Transport Days, on 9 November 2017.
The document highlights in the form of Innovation Capabilities, the solutions that will bring about the most sustainable, cost-efficient, high-performing, time driven, digital, and competitive customer-centred transport mode for Europe, for its citizens and freight business. It ‘translates’ the Shift2Rail JU’s vision into detailed, result-oriented R&I activities, performed in the S2R Programme by the JU Members together with SMEs, Research Centres and Universities.
Commissioner Bulc has reinforced her support for the Shift2Rail JU and its Programme, highlighting the importance of its Programme delivering cutting-edge R&I results and starting to exhibit them at the InnoTrans 2018.
Shift2Rail Multi Annual Action Plan translates the S2R Master Plan into detailed, result-oriented R&I
activities to be performed to start delivering the S2R vision as from 2014 onwards. S2R Master Plan provides a high-level view of what needs to be done and sets the framework for the research and innovation (R&I) activities to be performed within and beyond the S2R Programme which runs between 2014 up to 2020 with the possibility of final implementation and phasing out by 2024.
S2R’s key performance indicators include a 100% increase in rail capacity, leading to increased user demand, 50% increase in reliability, leading to improved quality of services, 50% reduction in life-cycle costs, leading to enhanced competitiveness, as well as the removal of remaining technical obstacles and the reduction of negative externalities linked to railway transport.
We remind that Shift2Rail JU has announced its Information Day – Open Call for proposals 2018, which will take place on the 12th of December 2017. The information day will provide an overview of the Shift2Rail Research & Innovation Programme, focusing in particular on the upcoming funding opportunities under the umbrella of the Horizon 2020 Programme.
