Serbia modernises railway line on Corridor 10

Serbia_rail Corridor X_south-east-europe-rail-conference-predrag-jankovi-16-1024According to the government in Belgrade, Serbian Railways launched the reconstruction and modernization works on the Niš – Preševo railway line: the Vinarci-Djordjevo, Vranjska Banja – Ristovac and Bukarevac-Bujanovac railway sections.
The reconstruction and modernisation works are performed by the Russian Railways and the project is funded with resources from the loan Russia granted for the modernization of Serbian Railways.
This project is important for the Serbian economy, because within the implementation of the works Serbian companies as  ZGOP Novi Sad, Energoprojekt civil engineering and MBA Ratko Mitrovic from Belgrade will be engaged as subcontractors, the Serbian Railways announced.
The section between Niš  and  Preševo has a total length of slightly more than 46 kilometers, specifically the Vinarci-Djordjev (15 km), Vranjska Banja – Ristovac (17.7 km) and Bujanovac – Bukarevac (13.7 km) sections.
The value of the project is approximately USD 26.4 million.
Works started on April 18 and will take place in two stages, with Vranjska Banja – Ristovac and Bujanovac – Bukarevac railway sections on the first stage, and after completion works will begin  on the section between Vinarci  and Djordjev.
The entire Niš – Preševo railway line is 166 km long and the funds needed for the modernisation works amounts to EUR 270 million.
Niš – Preševo is part of the railway Corridor X – (Salzburg – Ljubljana – Zagreb -) Sid – Belgrade – Niš – Preševo (- Skopje – Veles – Thessaloniki), with branch from Subotica to the Hungarian border (Corridor Xb).
