Serbia launched works on Bela Reka tunnel as part of Belgrade – Bar line

RZD International has started works on track laying in the Bela Reka tunnel on Resnik – Valjevo section of Belgrade – Bar railway line. This technology is already well known, but it is applied for modernization of Serbian railways for the first time.
This tunnel of 3.8 km length was constructed in 1958 and since then it had never been renovated. RZD International started reconstruction works in December 2016. During this period water diversion from the walls of the tunnel and rehabilitation of its reverse arch were carried out. The speed of passenger traffic will be increased from 50 to 120 km/h after replacement of rails and sleepers and installation of signaling and catenary systems.
Reconstruction of Resnik – Valjevo section is performed according to the contract signed between RZD International and Serbian Railways in December 2015. The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2018, its contractual price is about USD 80 million.
