Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), part of Gruppo FS Italiane, has awarded a three-year framework agreement worth more than EUR 733 million for a programme of maintenance and renewal works on railway signalling command and control systems.

The contract forms part of RFI’s broader investment plan to strengthen the national network through measures aimed at ensuring greater infrastructure reliability and improved operational regularity.
Divided into 38 lots, the framework agreement is designed to maximise coverage of interventions across the entire country. Works will include restoring systems and equipment following malfunctions caused mainly by damage, adverse weather, or vandalism.
The agreement also covers preparatory works for railway yards in support of the accelerated European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) roll-out, as well as technological upgrades to the network’s signalling systems for train spacing.
Renewal of control devices, signalling cabins, and level crossings is also included in the scope of works.
RFI said the investment would enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and support the wider digitalisation of Italy’s railway network.
