Railway PRO Summit: voestalpine VAE APCAROM develops hardware and software systems for track monitoring

During the Railway PRO Investment Summit, organised by Club Feroviar and Railway PRO with the support of the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF) in Bucharest on 3 and 4 October, voestalpine VAE APCAROM Group presented a series of innovative solutions developed to help build effective rail infrastructure systems.

Thus, within the Track Diagnosis and Monitoring systems, voestalpine VAE APCAROM provides a comprehensive range of hardware and software systems that enable data monitoring for both the rolling stock and the rail infrastructure, generated by a variety of track-level sensors.

The systems provide diagnosis information presented in intuitive software applications offering a real-time perspective and support in making customised decisions according to necessities.

Central Management Software PHOENIXCMS   is an intuitive software application system that provides daily diagnosis and management of railway assets.

In turn, the second system presented, Modular Diagnostic System PHOENIXMDS provides diagnosis and monitoring applications for rolling stock and fixed installations. This system provides information to the first system presented, Central Management Software PHOENIXCMS.

PHOENIXCMS enables access to predefined onboard panels and reports and informs the responsible staff about deviations and negative occurrences. The system provides real time data about the status of the infrastructure to the personnel in charge with maintenance.

“Using identical hardware and software components can be applied for different monitoring functions which can lead to less spares used for the operation of the system”, said Sergiu Radulescu, Research & Design Manager – voestalpine VAE APCAROM.

PHOENIX MDS has a significant contribution to rolling stock monitoring as it is capable to identify wheel faults and can be used for monitoring weight and axle load distribution. The system has a significant contribution to ensuring rail operation safety in difficult meteorological conditions.

The continuous development of voestalpine VAE APCAROM’s products and processes relies on its international know-how network. The group includes 28 companies, with a number of 38 production units distributed in 19 countries worldwide.
