Queensland selects Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail contractor

ActivUs Alliance has been awarded a design and pre-construction contract for the main works package on the 20 km Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project in Queensland.

Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail

The ActivUs Alliance comprises Acciona, CPB Contractors, UGL, SMEC and WSP which will work with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail to progress design and project planning activities.

The work includes the expansion to four tracks of the existing line from Kuraby to Beenleigh and all civil works and civil structures as well as improved rail operations between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The rail line between Kuraby and Beenleigh is a key capacity bottleneck on the network, where trains share a single track in each direction. During peak periods, all-stop Beenleigh trains need to be held to one side to allow Gold Coast express trains to pass through.

Under the project, level crossings will be removed, stations and bus stops will be upgraded and park & ride and kiss & ride facilities will be bult

The rail systems and conventional signalling will be upgraded to enable the deployment of the European Train Control System (ETCS). The project also involves modification of the local road network and improved walking and cycling connections along the corridor and integration of the project with adjacent construction packages and into the existing rail network.

The Alliance will now commence the design process and project planning activities and undertake further site investigations to ensure this key infrastructure investment is completed by 2032.

The delivery of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will provide more frequent and reliable public transport services to address the high travel demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The project is a vital component of Queensland’s future transport, ensuring that the region is prepared not only for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but also the long-term growth along this corridor. The project also aligns with the Queensland Government’s vision of an integrated transport system that is efficient, sustainable, and accessible to all.
