Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, reviewed the inaugural presentation of planned construction for the development of the Tashkent public transport system.
In Tashkent, both bus and metro networks are being methodically expanded. The metro network is to be extended to the Tashkent Tractor Plant area. This will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, a metro line will be built at ground level from Pushkin station on the Chilonzor line to the Tashkent Ring Road. The second phase will continue underground to the ‘Shah’ station at the Tractor Plant facility.
To improve traffic flow, plans are underway to route this metro line beneath the Tashkent Ring Road, thus avoiding disruption to surface traffic. The new metro line is expected to serve up to 85,000 passengers daily.
Another promising project is the metro extension to New Tashkent. Starting from the current Dostlik station and heading towards the new city centre, this 21 km line, served by nine stations, is expected to accommodate up to 230,000 passengers per day.
The first phase, covering the 8 km section with three stations, will be built by the Turkish company Xvav Tapi.
On 22 August, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting between Deputy Minister Ilzat Kasimov and Deputy General Director of the Chinese company Tianjin Rail Transit Group, Ma Yunkan. The parties discussed promising projects in the development of metro and railway transport. The Chinese side expressed its interest in participating in the reconstruction of existing lines of the Tashkent Metro, as well as in the construction of new routes.
It was emphasised that the implementation of these projects will contribute to the further modernisation of the country’s transport infrastructure and provide the population with convenient and modern transport services.
In addition, the parties reviewed priority areas of cooperation and, alongside the intention to continue consistent dialogue, agreed on the initiative to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
New rail links metro area to Tashkent city centre
During a visit to Parkent district in Tashkent Region, the electrified 24 km Baytkurgan–Parkent railway project was highlighted. This line will directly connect Parkent district with Tashkent city centre. Construction began in January 2025 and is well underway, with approximately 24 km of track already laid. Construction includes two sidings, four bridges, two overpasses, a tunnel, 78 culverts, and seven road-rail crossings. Once operational, the line will greatly enhance connectivity to the capital and boost tourism. It is projected to carry up to 275,000 passengers per day, a considerable boost for regional mobility and tourism potential.
Tashkent region’s Parkent district is set to become a key tourist destination with the launch of the electrified railway line construction between Baytkurgan and Parkent. This ambitious project is part of the Uzbek government’s broader efforts to promote tourism and enhance regional connectivity.

The residential complex Parkent, being built along the Parkentsoy stream, can be described as an eco-town. Covering six hectares, it will consist of 125 multi-storey buildings with a total of 5,200 residential units. All homes will feature modern utilities and energy-efficient technologies, including solar collectors on rooftops for water heating, and will benefit from a public transport system, including infrastructure for active mobility such as cycling paths and designed pedestrian areas. The new complex also supports entrepreneurship: 58 non-residential buildings are planned for retail and service businesses, expected to generate over 700 new jobs.
The technical and economic aspects of these projects were reviewed during the presentation. The President issued directives to raise the standards of construction and design quality, and to deliver a better Tashkent public transport system which will increase efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance the everyday travel experience for residents and visitors alike.
