The public transport system in Prague is considered by residents to be one of the best services in the city. It has long maintained a high level of quality and, in the overall assessment of services in the city, has retained its fourth place, the same position as last year.
This conclusion is based on a survey conducted by the STEM/MARK agency, in which more than a thousand respondents participated, including both city residents and regular commuters.
Passengers who use the services of the operator DPP (Dopravní podnik hl. m. Prahy) particularly appreciate the services, ticket prices, and the high level of passenger information. The average satisfaction rating for service quality reached 8.18 points out of 10.
74% of passengers are satisfied with public transport
According to the survey, 74% of passengers say they are satisfied with public transport in Prague. Respondents highlighted first and foremost the speed of travel (36%), the extensive coverage of the network (36%), and the reliability of services even in complex urban traffic conditions (28%). Other participants emphasized the advantages of affordable fares and high frequency of service. For older people, the main difficulties arise when routes change, while students mention delays in particular. Parents traveling with children, on the other hand, point to the need for more low-floor vehicles.
When asked what had pleasantly surprised them recently, many respondents mentioned the decoration of vehicles during the winter holidays, the modernization of the vehicle fleet, and the polite behavior of drivers.
Another very positive indicator is the Net Promoter Score, which reached 35 points. In the field of public services and transport, this result is considered excellent and indicates a high level of passenger loyalty and their willingness to recommend Prague’s public transport to others.
Trams and metro, an average share of 27%
Approximately three-quarters of respondents who use public transport in Prague have to change modes of transport on their way to work or school. In terms of frequency of use of different modes of transport, buses are the most popular, used daily by 31% of residents. These are followed by the metro, used daily by 28%, and trams, with 26%.
Although public transport services are growing, the overall level of public transport use has not yet returned to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels.
Drivers want lower fares
Respondents who mainly travel by car or who used to use public transport more often said they would be motivated to return to public transport if fares were lower (18%), if intervals between services were shorter (10%), if there were greater restrictions on car use, or if fuel prices rose (9%).
Among commuters in the Central Bohemian Region, 56% of those in employment prefer to use their own car, 36% combine urban public transport with train or bus, and 8% use public transport exclusively.
Passenger information is essential
One of the strengths of the DPP operator is its information system on timetables and transport connections. Approximately 44% of respondents who use public transport in Prague at least once a month gave the highest rating (1) to information services related to the timetable. The average score for the operator was 2.24.
“The 12% increase in the use of real-time information since 2021 shows that people appreciate quick access to data, either on their mobile phones or via electronic displays at stations. The level of satisfaction with these services is very good, with an average of 1.7, which is an encouraging result for us,” said Jan Barchánek, member of the board of directors and transport director at DPP.
The annual pass remains the favorite among travelers, with 67% of them willing to pay at least EUR 160. At the same time, 80% expect an average fare increase of 13% in 2026, and two-fifths already know that prices have increased since January 1.
