Portugal signs electrification contract

eletrificacaoInfraestruturas de Portugal, the rail infrastructure manager, announced that it has signed a EUR 16 million contract for the electrification of the rail section between Nine e Viana do Castelo on Minho Line. The project includes works on 44 km line between Nine (Vila Nova de Famalicão) and Viana do Castelo.
The project involves the installation of the catenary along the line, the construction of technical stations at Midões and Barroselas, the redesign of Barcelos, Barroselas, Darque and Viana do Castelo stations.
During the same official ceremony, Infraestruturas de Portugal signed the contract for the construction of Vila Fria Traction Substation (at Viana do Castelo) with a total value of EUR 3.7 million, and the contract for the design, construction and maintenance of the signalling system on Nine- Valença line, totalling EUR 8.8 million.
The project is part of “2020 Rail Investment Plan” approved by the Government in 2016. For the modernisation of Minho line between Nine and Valença it was allotted EUR 83.2 million.
