Port of Rotterdam acquires PortShuttle

Because the future of the PortShuttle rail service was uncertain in the short term, the Port of Rotterdam Authority has acquired PortShuttle Rotterdam B.V. With the acquisition of PortShuttle, the Port of Rotterdam Authority stresses the importance of rail freight transport for the port of Rotterdam while ensuring the continuity of this important rail service.
The PortShuttle started in 2015 as a neutral rail solution connecting all container terminals in the port of Rotterdam. Five times a week, the train completes a tour along the Rail Service Center Rotterdam (RSC) and all deep-sea container terminals. At these terminals, containers can be loaded and unloaded, allowing an efficient exchange of containers between terminals. As a result, the PortShuttle lowers the costs for the exchange of containers up to 20% while at the same time offering a more environmentally-friendly alternative for the transport of containers by road.
The take-over will not affect the clients in any way. The terms and rates will remain the same. The PortShuttle service package also includes the so-called ‘PortShuttle 2’. This is a collaboration with the GVT Group of Logistics, which runs six times a week between GVT in Tilburg and the terminals on the Maasvlakte. This service will also be continued.
