PolRegio purchases second-hand DMUs

The Polish regional rail operator PolRegio, together with the Public Transport Service Company, has signed a contract for the supply of five second-hand DMUs to operate on the rail networks of the Greater Poland and Lubusz Voivodeships.

Under the agreement, the operator will purchase three two-car Lint 41 DMUs and two three-car Talent units, providing passengers with a comfortable and reliable travel experience. The Lint units are expected to enter service in the second half of 2026, with the Talent trains following by the end of 2026.

“This contract represents another step towards implementing our plan to gradually renew our rolling stock. The acquired units will enable us to improve reliability and passenger comfort in regions where diesel rolling stock still plays a key role in daily public transport,” said Aleksandra Grzywaczewska, Acting President of the Management Board of PolRegio.

“We want the new trains to enter service as soon as possible. However, we cannot compromise on safety. To ensure a high standard of travel for passengers, we must also ensure that the vehicles are properly equipped and fitted with the necessary amenities. The units will therefore undergo inspections and repairs, including the replacement of worn parts and components,” added Wojciech Dinges, Vice-President of the Management Board.

The three Lint 41 diesel multiple units have already been delivered to PolRegio’s facility in Paterek, with the remaining trains to follow shortly. The second-hand DMUs will operate on routes including Kostrzyn–Krzyż (via Gorzów Wielkopolski) and Krzyż–Piła–Chojnice.

Each unit will accommodate over 200 passengers, including at least 120 seated, and will be capable of carrying a minimum of four bicycles. The trains will be equipped with air conditioning, a modern passenger information system, and CCTV monitoring. Ramps will assist passengers with reduced mobility, and each unit will feature at least two wheelchair spaces. A PRM-compliant toilet, equipped with a baby-changing table, will further enhance passenger comfort.

The acquisition of these five vehicles for the Wielkopolska and Lubuskie regions forms part of PolRegio’s wider programme to expand and modernise its diesel fleet. The operator has also launched a procurement process for additional second-hand multiple units, which will serve routes in the Warmia and Mazury region.

PolRegio is simultaneously working to strengthen its electric fleet. In July 2025, the company signed an agreement to purchase used electric multiple units for the Małopolska Voivodeship, and earlier in the year secured EU funding for the acquisition of zero-emission trains to operate in the Świętokrzyskie and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships. These new EMUs will be fitted with the most advanced rail safety and control systems available.
