Poland launches a new electrification tender

PKP Polish Railway Lines announced a tender for the electrification of the line from Węgliniec to Zgorzelec. The estimated value of the investment is PLN 70 million (EUR 16 million).
The project involves the electrification of 27 km line between the two Lower Silesian cities and it should be completed in 2019. The project is financed through Connecting Europe Facility and is part of the National Railway strategy.
The electrification project will shorten the travel time, will eliminate the changing locomotives from electric to diesel ones, and will improve freight traffic on south-western Poland’s axis.
Until 2023, the company intends to electrify its railway network including Ocice- Rzeszów section, Lublin – Stalowa Wola Rozwadów line, Elk – Korsze and Szczecin– Granica (Tantow).
We remind that in January, PKP Polish Railway Lines announced the tender for the electrification of 80 km on Kaszuba railway (part of Bydgoszcz – Tricity route). This project includes the construction of 50 km of second track between Kościerzyna and Gdańsk (on the three mainlines) and the modernisation of 134 km of railways and is valuated at EUR 365 million.
