Ontario starts works on new GO station

Ontario’s Transport Minister Steven Del Duca officially launched the construction works of a new GO station at Highway 404 and Bloomington Road. The value of the project is USD 61.8 million and is set be opened in 2019.
The new station will extend the Richmond Hill GO rail line north from the current terminus at Gormley GO Station, and will offer commuters living in Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville convenient access to GO Transit service.
The station will be fully-accessible and include a 765-space parking structure, charging for electric vehicles, heated shelters, a platform snowmelt system, a kiss & ride area and a covered six-bay bus loop. An additional 253 parking spaces will be available in a surface lot.
“The new station at Bloomington Road and Highway 404 will bring GO service closer to those living in York Region, making transit both more convenient and more accessible for commuters. Today’s ground-breaking is further proof that our government is committed to improving our transit networks and making your commute quicker than ever before,” Transport Minister said.
