ÖBB is hiring 375 people and offering paid vocational training

ÖBB continues to expand its team and announces the recruitment of approximately 375 new employees in Upper Austria (Oberösterreich) during 2026. At the same time, the company is offering nearly 250 places in vocational training programs, all of which are paid from day one.

The Austrian rail operator remains one of the most attractive employers in the country, according to a recent study by IFES, which ranks ÖBB fourth nationally.

Interest in a career with the company is also reflected in a new record number of applications: over 140,000 applications were received last year.

“The desire for job security has increased significantly in recent years. ÖBB represents exactly that: stable and secure jobs with reliable prospects, even in difficult economic times,” said Andreas Matthä, CEO of ÖBB.

375 new employees in Upper Austria

In 2026, ÖBB will employ around 375 people in Upper Austria in a wide range of professions – the company offers almost 130 different specializations. In addition to direct recruitment, the operator is investing heavily in internal training for key professions.

Throughout the year, training programs are organized for locomotive engineers, conductors, shunters, and traffic dispatchers. Around 250 places are available on these courses in the province in 2026.

An important distinguishing feature is that all training programs are paid from day one, which also makes the company attractive to candidates seeking a career change.

Stability and additional benefits

ÖBB focuses on long-term career prospects and modern working conditions.

Benefits include flexible working models, childcare services, support for employees who care for family members, diverse career opportunities, and additional facilities, including dedicated employee housing.

Austrian Minister of Mobility Peter Hanke emphasized the company’s economic role: “ÖBB is a key economic player and a reliable partner for Austria. Investments in railways create jobs, strengthen regions, and generate added value beyond the mobility sector.”
