Norwegian Government endorses ERTMS implementation plan

Norway-ERTMS_imagesIn its revised National Budget presented in May 2016, the Government expect the Parliament to approve an EUR 2.8 billion investment for a country-wide implementation of ERTMS. It means that Norwegian authorities ratify Jernbaneverket’s plans, scope and estimated cost for the ETCS rollout within 2030.

„We received the good news with great joy and humility for the challenge it represents. Our project organisation is very motivated to start the ERTMS rollout together with the supply chain”, says Project Manager Eivind Skorstad.

The Parliament’s resolution on the revised National Budget is usually approved before the summer every year.
Jernbaneverket announced that a prequalification notice for the project ERTMS National Implementation has recently been issued on TED, the website for European public procurement.
The notice marks the official start of the procurement process of an ETCS-based signalling system for the whole railway network in Norway. The procurement includes a new Traffic Management System (TMS) as well as equipping approximately 600 railway vehicles with ETCS.
According to Jernbaneverket’s ERTMS National Implementation Plan, a high level description of the programme for signalling renewal, the sequential roll out of ERTMS Level 2 Baseline 3 will be completed country-wide by 2030.
