Moscow-Kazan construction to be launched next year

sapsannnRussian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov has announced that the construction of Moscow – Kazan high-speed rail might be launched in 2017.
“Despite the great amount, over RUB 1 trillion (USD 12.7 billion), the federal budget and all involved parties have to consolidate finance to execute the project. Currently, the project is in the design phase and we expect to reach an agreement with our Chinese partners this year,” Sokolov said.
The total cost of high-speed rail Moscow-Kazan is estimated at RUB 1.068 trillion (USD 13.6 billion).
The 770 km Moscow – Kazan HSR will stretch through seven regions of Russia. It will have 15 stops, including Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary and Kazan. The journey from Moscow to Kazan, currently a 12-hour trip, is to be reduced to 3.5 hours.
In May 2015, a memorandum of cooperation on the construction of the high-speed line Moscow-Kazan was signed by China and Russia. The Chinese party may increase the credit line at RUB 150 billion (USD 1.9 billion).
