Moldovan detained in Poland after stopping a train carrying oil.

A 25-year-old Moldovan citizen was detained in eastern Poland after allegedly activating the emergency brake on a freight train carrying crude oil, according to Polish media reports. The incident took place at Puławy station on the Szczecin–Dorohusk railway line, one of the main links to the Ukrainian border.

According to local media reports, the man was found between the train carriages when the police intervened. The train was carrying tankers of crude oil.

Security operation amid acts of sabotage

The arrest took place as part of “Operation TOR,” a joint action involving the police, Territorial Defense Forces, and Railway Police, launched after several acts of sabotage were reported on the same railway line in November.

The authorities said that a bag containing mobile phones, SIM cards, electronic equipment, a power bank, and documents written in Russian was found on the suspect.

Involvement of intelligence services

The case was reported to the National Prosecutor’s Office, the Internal Security Agency (ABW), the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), and the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police (CBŚP).

Additional forces were mobilized at the scene, and investigative activities are ongoing. The authorities have not yet disclosed the official charges against the man.

The train was checked for possible dangerous materials, but no other risks were found.

Context of heightened security

The incident comes amid heightened security in Poland due to the war in Ukraine and intensified counterintelligence efforts in the region.

The Szczecin–Dorohusk line is considered strategic for transporting goods to Eastern Europe.
