“The metro system will become the backbone of Bucharest public transport”

“Bucharest metro system has become an important component of public transport and to encourage and increase its transport share, we plan to optimise and develop our services. The modernisation of the station access system is underway, we inaugurated two new stations, we continue Line 5 project and we plan Line 6. Within the 2030 strategy, Metrorex projects require investments of over EUR 4 billion”, declared Marin Aldea, Metrorex manager, during INFRATRANS®, organised by the Romanian Railway Engineers Association and Club Feroviar.
Metrorex initiates the modernisation of the station access system to be carried out until the end of the year. The project includes 5 phases, the access systems of 41 stations will be upgraded, including the acquisition of 139 modern ticket vending machines capable to provide change and fitted with POS.
This spring, Metrorex commissioned two stations, Laminorului and Straulesti, located on Parc Bazilescu – Straulesti section, on Line 4.
Regarding Line 5 project, the latest project is the initiation of the procedure for attribution of a new procurement contract for the traffic safety and automation system including the train safety equipment and the dynamic information system for Raul Doamnei-Eroilor section (PS Opera), including Valea Ialomitei station and depot.
In April, the development of the structural frame of metro Line 5, section Raul Doamnei – Eroilor (PS Opera), including Valea Ialomitei Station was 87,76% completed.
Organised on 23-24 May 2017 in Gara de Nord (Bucharest North Station), INFRATRANS® included the exhibition of stands, the rolling stock exhibition and the job fair. The event was carried out under the aegies of the Romanian Ministry of Transport with the support of CFR SA, CFR Calatori, CFR Marfa, Metrorex, AFER and CENAFER.
