Malaysia approves new MRT line in Kuala Lumpur

KLKuala Lumpur’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) announced that the Malaysian Government has given the final approval for a new MRT line from Sungai to Putrajaya. The final approval of the project contains, among others, the final alignment and station locations of the line.
The Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrahaya Line (SSP Line) is the second line of the Klang Valley MRT Project and will serve a corridor with a population of two million people.
The length of the line is 52.2 km of which 38.7 km will be elevated and 13.5 km will be underground. The underground section of the alignement will be built between Jalan Ipoh and Kuchai Lama. SSP Line will have 37 stations, of which 25 stations will be elevated stations and 11 will be underground, and 1 station will be „half-sunken”, where it will be built on the ground level, below the current level.
With the SSP Line will have direct acces to Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur and will also integrate with the future Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR.
First phase of the project, between Sungai Buloh and Kampung Batu is expected to be operational by july 2021, while the remaining section, between Kampung Batu and Putrahaya Sentral will be opeational under the second phase, by july 2022.
MRT Corp expects the SSP Line to have a ridership of more than 500,000 passengers daily when it is fully operational, by July 2022.
