The Community of Madrid will invest EUR 10.9 million in the comprehensive maintenance of the Metro de Madrid network, which extends over 300 kilometres. The initiative aims to reinforce the safety, reliability, and overall performance of one of Europe’s busiest urban transport systems.

The regional government’s Council of Ministers has reviewed the proposed award of a technical assistance contract for the project, which will run for a period of four years. The works will be carried out at night to avoid disruption to daily passenger services, ensuring full network availability during operating hours.
According to the regional government, the maintenance programme will help preserve optimal track conditions, reducing service warnings and incidents, and minimising vibration, noise, and wear. These measures are designed to improve train circulation, ensure greater comfort for passengers, and extend the lifespan of the network’s infrastructure.
This investment adds to the €53 million recently approved for the wider conservation and modernisation of Metro infrastructure. Together, these actions reaffirm the government’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading the metro network, which serves as a vital transport artery for Madrid’s residents and commuters.
The Metro de Madrid network, used by more than 715 million passengers in 2024, remains central to the region’s mobility strategy. The combined investments aim to secure a modern, resilient, and sustainable metro system that continues to support the capital’s economic and social activity while ensuring the safety and comfort of daily users.
